Pakistan is one of the largest producers of fresh fruits and vegetables for both home markets and exports.

Agriculture is the largest sector in Pakistan. Fruits and vegetables occupy an important place in the agricultural sector of the country. Pakistan has a wide range of agro-climatic conditions, which allow to produce a wide variety of fruits and vegetables year-round. The main fruits and vegetables produced in Pakistan are mangoes, oranges, tangerines, apples, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce, spinach, carrots and watermelons and others.

The Pakistani fruit and vegetable market is estimated at $ 8.0 billion (2017), with a CAGR of 5.6%.

Pakistani fruit and vegetables are being demanded in almost all over the world. Mango, kino, apple, dates, pine nuts, oranges and guava are few well exported fruits and among vegetables are potato, onion, mushroom, garlic, chilly etc.

Pakistan currently exports fruits and vegetables to the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asian countries. Pakistan's most exported fruit is mango. Demand for it is growing from such countries as the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

The export of fruits from the country witnessed an increase of 4.34 percent during the first 11 months of fiscal year (2018-19) against the exports of the corresponding period of last year. The fruit exports from the country were recorded at $ 393.945 million during July-May (2018-19) against the exports of $377.558 million during July-May (2017-18), showing a growth of 4.34 percent, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

The vegetables exports from the country declined by 3.37 percent by going down from $228.894 million last year to $221.180 million during the first 11 months of fiscal year (2018-19). In terms of quantity, the exports of the vegetables increased of 15.02 percent.

Moreover, to meet the export and consumer demand for fruits and vegetables, the government is planning to invest more in the agricultural sector.
MANGO

Pakistan is the world's fourth largest producer of mango. The country produces around 1.75 million tons of mangoes each year. Heralding the arrival of summer, mangoes become available in the market from early May and remain till September.
Widely cultivated in Sindh and Punjab provinces, the popular varieties of mangoes are Sindhri and Chaunsa, other varieties available in the market include Langra, Dussehri and Anwar Ratole.
This pulpy summer fruit is not just a season favourite in Pakistan, in fact it is hailed as the 'King of Fruits' in the entire sub-continent. About three-fourth of the world's mangoes are produced in Asia and are much in demand due to their exceptional taste and versatility.
Mango is not just the national fruit of Pakistan, but also the second-most exported fruit grown in the country. Currently, the country's mango production stands at 1.8 million tonnes, of which around 6% is exported.
Pakistan exports mangoes to approximately 57 countries, which include Middle Eastern countries, Europe, UK, US and Japan. However, the bulk of demand for Pakistani mangoes comes from the UAE, UK, Saudi Arabia and Iran.
